Setup
Collision Guard works on Jira Cloud and Jira Service Management Cloud. Once it is installed it runs on every issue, with nothing to add to each one.
Install
- In Jira, go to Apps → Explore more apps and search for Collision Guard, or open the listing on the Atlassian Marketplace.
- Choose Get it now and start the free trial. Sites with up to 10 users can use it for free.
- A Jira administrator approves the install. That is all: the app is live on every project.
You need to be a Jira administrator to install apps. Collision Guard asks only for permission to read issues and users, and to keep its own small store of settings.
What agents see
- The alert at the top of Jira. When someone else opens the issue you are on, a Jira flag tells you who it is, even if the side panel is closed.
- The Collision Guard panel on the right of every issue: who is here right now, who has the issue open in a background tab, and any changes made since you opened it.
- Changed while open. If someone changes a field or adds a comment while you have the issue open, you see who changed what, with a Reload issue button. When you come back to a background tab, you are told what changed while you were away.
- I'm handling this. Claim the ticket so everyone else sees it is taken. The claim expires on its own (30 minutes by default). A colleague can still Take over if they need to.
What customers see
In Jira Service Management, a customer looking at their request on the portal is told when the team changes its status or replies, so they refresh before writing again. Internal changes are never announced to customers.
Settings for admins
Open Jira settings → Apps → Collision Guard. There you will find:
- A report of the last 30 days: collisions spotted, changed-while-open warnings and claims, per project.
- Enable Collision Guard, to turn it on or off for the whole site.
- Show alerts at the top of the issue, to turn the Jira flags on or off. The side panel always works.
- App language: follow Jira, English, French or Arabic. Jira has no Arabic, so you can choose it here.
- Customer portal refresh notice, for Jira Service Management.
- Claim expires after, from 5 to 480 minutes.
- Excluded projects, by project key, for projects where it should stay off.
Limits
- Collision Guard warns; it does not lock issues. Jira does not let apps block edits.
- Forge apps do not run in the Jira mobile apps, so presence and alerts are on the web only.
